Ib Learner Profile Attributes

Image result for ib learner profileThis week in class we have been learning about IB. Hawthorn Academy is an IB school. Which stands for  International Baccalaureate. The IB philosophy is based on student experience which is more focused on system inquiry and Socratic methods more than rote memorization, repetition and "kill and drill" methods. The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. We have 10 Ib Leaner profile attributes that we want our students to know and be; knowledgable, risk takers, caring, principled, communicators, inquirers, thinkers, open minded, balanced, and reflective. We hope that by becoming these attributes your students we be more responsible members of an international community. I talked about what each attribute meant then I had the class break up into groups and create posters on these attributes. Then I had them present their attribute and what it means to be that attribute. It turned out really well. They drew some creative pictures for their posters and they explained to me what they thought it meant to be that attribute. The rest of the day in other lessons we went back and reflected on the attributes and how they went into our lessons.
