Dear Parents,
I am so sorry if there was any confusion this week. Hopefully this will clear up some things.
HOMEWORK
There is no homework this week or next if you want to read at night this week to get practicing that is fine but you do not need to record it yet. This week if you want to send back your homework folders that is fine but I wont need them back until Friday morning. Starting on the 31st  homework folders will be sent home that Mondays and you will need to send them back to school on Friday mornings. If any papers need to go home during the week I will send them home in their backpacks. Homework will usually consist of 3 to 4 math sheets,  a spelling list, and record 20 mins of reading every night. That 20 minutes of reading can be anything from reading their math homework, reading their spelling lists, reading a book, to reading a menu if you go out to eat that night. I am not picky as long as they are reading something for 20 minutes. Starting in September you will record your reading on the back of the homework folder on the calendar. Record the minutes for each day and sign your name or initial next to it. I sent home info about spelling. You can practice your spelling any way you want to as well.

CARPOOL
Car pool is what Hawthorn calls the end of the day pick up. The end of the day gets really chaotic. We had a child get lost yesterday after school. First graders are not used to being out in all the craziness. So we have procedures that we are asked to follow. If your child has an older sibling or your child has an older friend at Hawthorn they are allowed to come to my classroom at the end of the day and pick up your child. They will need to walk in to my classroom and physically get them. I will not let your child leave my room until the older child has physically grabbed them. After those kids have left with their older sibling I will walk the rest of the students outside next to the gate that is by the Kindergarten rooms. If you pick up your child and they do not have an older sibling I will take them to the gate by the kindergarten room that is in the front of the school on the east side of the building. That is were you will need to pick up your child. We went over this several times today with your children so they should know were to go. We will go over this again tomorrow. So please tell your older children that they need to come get the 1st graders from my room or if we are not there anymore then they need to get them at the gate by the kindergarten room.
